Bob joined Chichester
College's Response to Redundancy programme to increase his skills,
hoping this would help him to gain employment. Having worked for 15
years in the Brixton Police Force before being made redundant, Bob
decided he wanted to move into door supervisor work, as his experience
with handling conflict, dealing with violent situations, and his
involvement with the police riot squad had provided him with
transferable skills.
Bob was already an
experienced first aider, although his qualification had expired. He was
unable to afford the SIA door supervisor course, and wanted to undertake
an intensive course to refresh and update his current knowledge and
teach him new skills.
Bob felt there was a
lack of opportunities available to him, and had previously found the
help he had received from the Job Centre Plus to be lacking. He said
that after the help and advice of his tutors on the Response to
Redundancy course, he felt he was better equipped to start looking for
work. He says thanks to the course, he has re-learnt things he had
forgotten and re-built his confidence.
Since
he finished the programme, Bob has found a season job to apply for and
is considering seeking something more permanent within the security
industry. Bobs states: “I feel a lot brighter and more optimistic,
‘perked up’ even! I now feel that there are opportunities within my
grasp. My confidence is boosted, as is my morale. Bob is facing his
future with renewed enthusiasm, refreshed skills, and new hope.
