Chelsie
had been out of school for four months when she was referred to Nacro by
Social Services at Kent County Council. She had attended Westlands
Secondary School up until Easter, and wanted to continue her education
outside of the school environment.
Chelsie has moved around a
lot as a result of being placed into foster care, which has caused her
to feel unsettled. At first she found it difficult to fit in with a new
group of peers; she had very low self-esteem and was lacking in
confidence. Chelsie began to develop more trusting relationships with
her peers and her tutors, and soon settled into the group.
Combined with her general
knowledge skills, Chelsie’s increasing confidence has helped her to gain
several qualifications too. She has achieved a National Open College
Network (NOCN) Award, Certificate, and Diploma.
Since starting her time
with Nacro, Chelsie has completely changed her outlook on education. She
is more settled and believes in herself. As do her tutors, who describe
her as “always positive, willing to help others and easy to communicate
with”.
Chelsie showed a lot of
potential on the course, and is now looking forward to returning to full
time education and taking her GCSEs. Nacro have helped her choose her
learning path and after completing her GCSEs Chelsie would like to
attend college. |
