George
was not in education, training or employment and did
not have a direction or the motivation to really try
to plan his future or even the next steps. He wanted
to learn new skills but he did not know how to
access opportunities or have the confidence to seek
help.
Because of his short attention span, George had a
tendency to lose interest if not kept busy, and
therefore required an engaging and varied course. He
learnt how to organise his time, and managed to
contribute to the organisation of a group trip to
Brighton, which was something he had never attempted
before.
George
had to work hard to overcome some initial problems
when starting the course, including problems with
his EMA and income support. He learnt to be more
patient and polite, and developed good communication
skills; which he was then able to list on his CV. He
made some close friends during the project and is
still in touch with them, meeting up regularly to
share common interests they have discovered amongst
themselves whilst on the course.
George
achieved a Bronze Arts Award and displayed his work
at a Nacro exhibition. He has applied for an e2e
programme which he hopes to start soon.
A
major change for George is that he is now living
independently, which is a huge challenge but he is
coping incredibly well. He now feels more positive
about the future and has some direction to follow.
He feels that his confidence and independence have
increased hugely and is looking forward to the
future.
