Lisa
suffers from dyslexia, and has problems with numeracy and literacy,
which means she needs extra support with her studies. She attended
Sittingbourne Community College until March 2009, when her parents
withdrew her from the school as they felt she was being bullied. She was
referred to Nacro by Connexions in Sittingbourne, Kent.
Lisa found the school
environment worrying as she had previously been a victim of racist
bullying; this has caused a great barrier towards her education. When
she started with Nacro, Lisa found that working in a smaller group made
her feel able to cope better. She felt more confident and could
concentrate better on her work.
So far, Lisa has achieved
the NOCN Award and Certificate for her work with Nacro. Her tutors agree
Lisa shows a lot of potential, and her self-esteem has greatly improved.
Lisa now enjoys learning,
she is much more confident, and finds it easy to mix within a group.
Lisa engaged well on group activities and has becoming a very positive
individual within the group.
Looking forward to her
future in education, Lisa would like to attend college and study to
become a beautician and hairdresser. |
