Martin's Story

Martin has worked for many years in the construction industry operating various types of heavy equipment. Due to the dust inhaled over this time he has a damaged respiratory system and is now unable to work in his former profession due to the sensitivity and highly damaging effects of the dust. Over twenty years ago Martin worked on Hastings sea front in an entertainment fairground ride attraction. Part of his duties was as ‘trouble-shooter’ and he was charged with ‘sorting out’ troublesome clients. This led to numerous convictions for affray and ABH and as such, Martin has found it very difficult to obtain employment. The Adviser contacted the police and spoke about Martin’s issue. As these offences were over twenty years old the police were able to inform the client and Adviser that these offences will not appear on a CRB check. As a result of this intervention Martin has now achieved a position as a meter reader and has expressed great appreciation of his new job which it sounds like he is really enjoying and suits him very well indeed.
