Nick's response to redundancy

Nick had been employed as an Export Manager with a successful local Brewery and his redundancy after 10 years in a senior position came as an unexpected blow in May 2009. His background over the last twenty years, centred around the fast moving consumer goods industry. His experience and a skill set sat across sales, man and brand management.

Having registered with Jobcentre Plus Nick then attended a Newly Unemployed Jobseekers (NUJ) programme run by TBG Learning. This attendance helped to identify some of his transferable skills and prompted Nick to reconsider using his skill base in a training and coaching role, particularly working with newly unemployed jobseekers.

Nick met with a TBG Response to Redundancy Tutor and they explored his enthusiasm for moving into the learning and training sector. A new career progression plan was developed with Nick to support him to use his skills in this new sector.  Following a further 1-2-1, Nick completed an application to enrol in the PTLLS course (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector) to give him the opportunity to formalise his training and teaching skills. He also agreed to undertake some coaching with a TBG employability tutor to gain greater understanding of the client base and to learn new skills in employability coaching.  As a result of the work Nick undertook and his clear passion for the work and previous experience of training and development Nick was invited for an interview with TBG. Here he was successful and joined TBG Learning as a Response to Redundancy tutor on 25th August 2009.
