Shawn's Story

Shawn was made redundant from managing the shop front of a motorcycle dealership in Margate, after working there for 11 years. Before that he was working in retail in a ski supplies store, for 9 years, and then before that in furniture sales for 11 years. Shawn had never been unemployed, and so found the R2R course perfectly suited to him as he was not only looking at getting back into work as soon as possible, but also changing his career.

He wanted to work with children and young people, and despite coaching an under 10s football team and giving guitar lessons to young people did not think he had the relevant experience to move into children’s and youth work.

After working on his CV and covering letter and engaging in the seminars run by TBG, covering topics from interview techniques, communication in the workplace, and psychology, body language and tone of voice, Shawn applied prospectively to every school in the wider Thanet area. From this he gained several interviews, and was offered a job within Hartsdown School. This position was created solely for him on the basis of his application, and he was more than happy to accept and move into a career he has always wanted to pursue.
